If I think of it ahead of time, I bring a tub of water with some Murphy’s oil soap into my art room and throw the stencils in there to soak as soon as I’ve used them. The paint just floats off and I’ll have to do is take it to the tub and rinse them off. If I don’t do that, then I clean them in the bathtub with Murphy’s oil soap, but I will try adding the detergent also. It helps to have the flat surface of the bathtub to stick your stencil to as you’re cleaning it. I also find a very soft Nail brush works well on the delicate stencils. The best kind is what doctors use before they scrub into surgery, but those are hard to find.

I love this page so much. Just one little suggestion, if you know what supplies you are using could you list them in the description box? I know it is hard to know where you get everything in this type of crafting. (Especially if you are picking as you go.) But I love the stencil you used and have searched all over for one similar, but without a name it is pretty much fruitless. The same with your focal image. Adorable, but impossible to find. (Though I found some that are close, so I am happy.

Absolutely love this tutorial. Started yesterday using napkins with the water method but I think yours is much better. I love the way you add paint. Could I do the first seal with polyvine and paint over that? Xx

An alternative way to smoosh that will work in a journal is to pick up paint from your puddle with clear packaging (like stamp and die sets come in), then apply it where you want it on the page. A bit more control than blind smooshing and a good use for what's otherwise waste. Crumpling it or aluminum foil to pick up paint or ink also works.

I never knew you could clean stamps with Murphy's oil soap. Do you use it full strength or water it down?
